Ooh, free stuff...hey, I didn't marry a Dutch guy without picking up some useful behavior...

;)

Favorite holiday memory...well, it's more of a tradition. As a kid we usually did our main family celebration on Christmas eve. We would have a special dinner with just the 5 of us...all of our favorite foods. There would always be shrimp and lasagne, usually steak, too (and leftovers for days, of course). We also always had pickled herring (Scandinavians) and lots of really excellent cheeses (this was in WI--cheese is still a big part of the festivities wherever my family and I gather).

Hi Karin!

One of my favorite holiday memories was making gingerbread houses with my grandma. My sister was still too little, in my Gma's opinion, to make real gingerbread houses, so we used graham crackers for the walls, along with royal icing and all sorts of candies. My sister made the biggest mess in the world, and my grandparents kitchen was just covered in marshmallows, royal icing, and graham cracker crumbs. My sister was covered in it - and had royal icing in her hair. It was such a mess. I remember my grandparents just laughing and laughing about it. It was about 30 years ago, but I remember it like it was yesterday. =)

Aren't you a sweetie ?

Favorite christmas memory is probably the one when we had a true white Christmas, I was about 4at the time. We woke up to about 6 inches of freshly fallen snow. My Dad took me up to visit my Grandparents who lived just up the street from us, as we were walking we came to a road to cross, the snow was so deep that I couldn't see the curb and went flying when I hit it and landed butt down in the snow. Once we got to my Grandparents house, Grandad took me out in the back garden and we made a HUGE snowman, complete w/ hat and pipe. i LOVED that snowman and would spend hours looking at him from the conservatory, i was devastated when he finally melted.

It's a simple one, but I still fondly remember stringing popcorn as a kid. Despite the bloodied fingers, I felt so grown up with the needle and so proud when our strands decorated the tree. :)

Hi Karin! (It's Carrie)
My favorite Christmas memory happened a few days before Christmas, back in 2002. I got proposed to! :) He didn't do anything fancy, but it's a wonderful memory just the same. <3

Ok, here it is...Kids won't be reading this right? This memory is not very PG. OK, my favorite memory at Christmas is "sharing" sometime with my husband in front of the tree. What can I say? The lights just bring it out in me.... We have done so for every year since we have been together......

wow... there are so many, but I think my favorite Christmas memory is after my son left for college, and I hadn't seen him since summer, the longest I'd ever gone without seeing him, and he came home for Christmas, bringing the lovely girl who would later become my dearest daughter-in-law. It was wonderful!!! Thank you for the incredible giveaway = }

I can remember as a child being soo excited to get home after school to throw on my snow pants and build castles in the snow in our yard. Another mememory is going to Mulick Park's hill and going sledding with my brothers, we would try to hit all of the jumps. OH another one would be putting bread bags on your stocking feet before sticking them into your boots... times have thankfully changed and we no longer have to do this. Thanks for the walk down memory lane, I look forward to making special memories with my children that they can retell in years to come!

Growing up, decorating the tree was always my favorite time of the holiday. But I remember one winter morning when we woke to a duck in the house. It came in through the chimney, must have been clearing the path for Santa!

One of my favorite memories is making fudge with my mom. Well, all of us girls (4 at that time) would "help out". Mom would do the cooking...and when it was ready, us girls would help mold it. Mom had these great heart shaped molds that we always used. They were open and the fudge was still runny so we had to stand there with 2 knives fiercely holding down the mold so no fudge would escape.

These fudge hearts always became presents for our school teachers.

A few years ago my sisters & I "inherited" these and split up the set. We also still have that recipe. Hm...I thnk it's time to make some fudge this weekend!

Hi Karin! I have a few favorite Christmas memories, too. As a child (and even now), my brother and I would always sit and watch The Christmas Story together. We loved when Ralphie would eat the mashed potatoes like the little piggy, etc. We still talk about that movie and how much we loved it.

As an adult, my daughter's first Christmas was last year and had many wonderful memories BUT one of my favorite memories came the year before when I was pregnant. My hubby bought a little lavendar bear for her and we put it in her nursery after the holidays to wait for her arrival. It was so sweet!
